Parent Tips: How to Get Your Tween Reading.
Many a conversation with kids about reading, leads me to share two tips that I feel are most valuable to get a kid reading. First, I challenge the young reader to repeat to themselves, "Words are not the enemy, words are my friends!" A kid mantra that really works to put them in a mental space to open up to the imaginary worlds that are waiting for them. Second, a practical tip. If you don't have a home library create one. How do you expect a kid to linger in a reading space if you don't have one? Already have a book shelf? Launch a redesign of your home library and make your tween a team member! They will feel empowered and take ownership of the space! For more tips on the subject check out this article at http://www.colorincolorado.org/article/parent-tips-how-get-your-teen-reading
